Raising Taxes is Not the Answer
Recently two people I know and admire told me that we need to pay more taxes to solve our country’s economic problems. One of these people was a business contact; the other was a close relative. Both are about my age, and pretty conservative. These conversations led me to consider how many people believe this.
Raising taxes will only hurt us. Our freedom is closely tied to our money, and the more we are taxed, the less freedom we have.
The answer to our economic problem is to cut spending. We need to withdraw from the two illegal and immoral wars we are currently mired in; and to withdraw from the new war we have started in Pakistan.
We need to close our military bases abroad. We have, by many accounts, over 700 permanent bases in foreign countries. No other country is doing this. What happened to those sixties liberals who said we couldn’t be the world’s policeman? Imagine the resentment that is building up against us in these foreign places.
We need to bring all our young military people home, and use our military budget to give them academic and vocational training. They can help us rebuild our manufacturing base.
The military/industrial complex is bleeding us dry and destroying the middle class. This is being done by design. Our freedom is being diminished.
Our government spends about 4 trillion dollars a year — two trillion of that on the military. That same two trillion is borrowed from foreign countries, most notably, China.
Stop the wars. Bring our countrymen home, and retrain them to rebuild our manufacturing base. Cut spending by half, cut taxes. Restore freedom.
Please stay tuned for my new war protest poster.
